Cholera Outbreak Kills 800 People in Haiti
The death toll from a cholera epidemic in Haiti continues to increase. According to the Board Disease Control and Prevention United States (CDC), the death toll had reached 800 people.
Although the number of victims increases, the CDC estimates the risk of possible epidemic spread to the United States is very small. This view on existing sanitation systems in the land of Uncle Sam.
Ezra Barzilay epidemic experts from the CDC said the emergency condition which occurs in Haiti due to this epidemic, getting worse from day to day.
"On November 8, the death toll reached 640, but now that number increased to 800," Barzilay said as quoted by Reuters on Friday (11/12/2010).
"The situation here (Port Au Prince), the more pathetic each day. Citizen (Haiti) to queue to get treatment. While the bed is reduced, whereas hospital was not able to cope with patients," according to a medical officer.
Party of Haiti's health ministry confirmed if the number of deaths from cholera until the day Tuesday, November 9 reached 724 souls. Meanwhile, another 11,125 people currently receiving treatment in hospital.
